Where Surgical Excellence
Meets Total Safety

Sunray Hospital's Operation Theatre complex houses 8 fully equipped surgical suites designed to the highest NABH and international biosafety standards. Each suite is fitted with positive-pressure laminar airflow, HEPA filtration, and real-time environment monitoring — creating a near-sterile field that dramatically reduces post-operative infection risk.

We perform surgeries across General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Laparoscopy, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, and Emergency procedures — with a dedicated 24-hour emergency OT always on standby. Every surgery is led by specialist consultants supported by trained scrub nurses, anaesthesiologists, and OT technicians.

How do I prepare for surgery at Sunray Hospital?
Pre-operative preparation depends on the type of surgery. Generally, patients are advised to fast for 6–8 hours before the procedure, complete all pre-op blood tests and imaging ordered by the surgeon, stop certain medications like blood thinners as directed, and arrive at the hospital at least 2 hours before the scheduled OT time. Your surgeon and the surgical coordinator will provide a detailed personalised checklist during your pre-op consultation.
What types of surgeries are performed at Sunray?
Sunray Hospital performs surgeries across General Surgery (appendix, hernia, gallbladder), Laparoscopic Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery (joint replacement, fracture fixation), Gynaecology (hysterectomy, fibroid removal, caesarean), Urology (kidney stones, prostate, bladder), ENT (sinus, tonsil, ear drum), Ophthalmology (cataract, retinal procedures), and Emergency Surgeries including trauma cases at any hour.
Who will be present in the OT during my surgery?
Your surgical team typically consists of: your primary surgeon and a surgical assistant, a dedicated consultant anaesthesiologist who manages your sedation and vital signs throughout, two to three scrub-certified OT nurses, and an OT technician managing equipment. For complex procedures, additional specialist consultants may be present. All team members follow strict WHO Surgical Safety Checklist protocols before, during, and after the procedure.
What is the difference between general anaesthesia and regional anaesthesia?
General anaesthesia puts you into a controlled unconscious state for the entire surgery — used for major abdominal, orthopaedic, and thoracic procedures. Regional anaesthesia (spinal or epidural) numbs only the lower half of the body while you remain conscious — commonly used for knee, hip, and caesarean surgeries. Your anaesthesiologist will discuss the most appropriate option for your specific procedure during the pre-anaesthesia consultation, considering your medical history and the surgery's requirements.
How long will my surgery and recovery room stay take?
Surgery duration varies widely — a laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) may take 45–60 minutes, while a total knee replacement takes 1.5–2 hours, and complex abdominal surgeries may take 3–5 hours. After surgery, all patients are transferred to the Post-Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for 30–90 minutes of monitoring until vital signs are stable, then moved to the general ward or ICU depending on the procedure.
Can family members wait nearby during surgery?
Yes. Sunray Hospital has a dedicated surgical waiting lounge adjacent to the OT complex where family members can wait comfortably. Our surgical coordinator will provide regular updates during longer procedures. Once the patient is moved to the recovery room and is stable, the surgeon will personally speak with the family to explain the procedure outcome and post-operative care plan.
Is daycare or same-day surgery available?
Yes. Many minor to intermediate procedures are available as daycare surgeries — meaning you are admitted, operated on, and discharged on the same day. Common daycare procedures include cataract surgery, minor ENT procedures, hernia repair, certain gynaecological surgeries, and arthroscopy. Your surgeon will confirm daycare eligibility based on your health status, procedure type, and availability of a responsible adult at home for post-operative monitoring.
